Located in the backpacker area, a five-minute scooter ride north from KoHub, this beach bar is one of the more popular ones at Long Beach. While Lyms and Pangea further down south are chill locations to watch the sunset Funky Fish has a more youthful (though popular across ages) and energic vibe.
Cocktails are nothing special. There is no happy hour (though cocktails are pretty cheap all through the day). Food is standard Thai fare and a bit uneven in quality. Service can be lackadaisical even by Thai standards and consists mainly of unenthusiastic elderly ladyboys. Seating in the shade is in short supply so bring your sunscreen.
Yet, despite all that, it has become one of my favorite sunset places. Maybe it's the pulse, location, and authenticity. There's always fun people around and the area has a lot of nearby places to eat or party, like Treehouse, Mr. Pad Thai and Cannabis Bar.
Tip, you find the road down to Funky Fish just after the Muay Tai stadium. Keep a lookout for the funky fish sign. Try a "Pineapple express" - San Som, Soda, and pineapple juice, for a measly 100 TBH.
